Bighorn sheep roam freely aroundRadium Hot Springs, occasionally venturing right into the village center for a stroll and, in mating season, headbanging session. The local herd consists of roughly 140 of these charismatic megafauna, who have long been a point of pride for local residents.
Since 2021, an imposing steel sculpture of a set of the sheep’s distinctive horns greets visitors to the village. Standing 20 feet tall and 40 feet wide,Bighornsis the work of artist Adam Meikle and Idea 64 Projects, a fabrication shop in Salmon Arm. Although the horns are still under construction, they are already worthy of a detour.
The most impressive time to visit the sculpture is after dark, when accent lighting illuminates its curves.
